The following is a list of airports that are located within about an hour of the wedding location:

Venice
Treviso
Verona
Vicenza

You can also look for tickets into either of the airports in Milan. Arriving here will require a two hour train ride followed by about a 45-minute bus ride to Bassano del Grappa.

Towns near Bassano del Grappa

If you plan to travel around Italy, the trains are very comfortable and are the most cost-effective way of getting from place to place. You can purchase tickets on the day you plan to travel at each station so you can plan your itinerary as you go. See itineraries at the Trenitalia website.

Marostica (10 min)
Asolo (25 min)
Citta Della (10 min)
Venezia/Venice (1 hour by train, which departs from Bassano)
Verona (home or Romeo and Juliet! 45 min by car)
Bologna
Lago di Garda
Vicenza

The Veneto region is also known for its villas, and many of them are open to tourists. You can take a tour by boat from Padova to Venice. Bassano del Grappa is located at the foothills of the Alps. Many trips to nearby villages and mountain destinations are well worth it:

Asiago (home of asiago cheese)
The Dolomites (the Italian Alps — breathtaking!)

If you’re looking to do a little more…

If you want to see some of the best of what northern Italy has to offer, we recommend Cinque Terre, which is made up of five towns built into the cliffs along the Mediteranean coast of the La Spezia region. They are connected by a train but you can also hike between the five towns. There is no direct road that connects them, so no cars allowed!

The following towns are all within a few hours by train and are highly recommended if you want to venture out a bit further:

Lucca
Pisa
Firenze (Florence)
Siena
San Gimignano

Barbara’s relatives have a country home (kind of like a bed and breakfast) in Tuscany. We can arrange a nice rate if you are interested in staying at their place. You can view their website here.
